Bio
Where Hip Hop and R&B Collide
That’s a Whole Lotta Body
If The Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige had a love child, that child would be Joelisa Chanel.
Raised in Brooklyn, Joelisa Chanel is a singer and songwriter whose sound fuses raw hip-hop storytelling with emotionally charged R&B melodies. Writing her own music since the age of 9, she’s built her artistry on honesty, attitude, and lived experience—creating records that feel as real as they are addictive.
After high school, she began training at ET Studios under renowned vocal coach Laura Monaco-Marino, where she sharpened both her vocal control and pen game. The result is a distinct Trap Soul sound—layered, confident, vulnerable, and unapologetically her.
Music has always been part of her DNA. From singing in the church choir with her cousins to growing up in a family of musicians, actors, and dancers, creativity was never optional—it was inherited. She often jokes that she’s the Keenen Ivory Wayans of her family: the visionary bringing everything together. As she puts it, “I can’t wait to get on, everybody gone eat.”
Joelisa built her stage presence performing across New York City’s underground circuit, commanding rooms with both energy and authenticity. For a time, she stepped away from the idea of becoming a recording artist—but as she says, a breakup and the right instrumentals will change everything.
That turning point led to the release of her debut EP, “Fuck : Love” in 2023—a project rooted in emotional duality, inspired in part by Lemonade by Beyoncé and originally conceived under the title “Kool-aid.” The project captures the highs, lows, and contradictions of love with striking clarity.
Tracks like “Lotta Body” celebrate confidence and body positivity with bold energy, while songs like “Lonely” and “On My Mind” reveal a more vulnerable side, pulling listeners into moments of reflection and emotional truth. And with records like “Irreplaceable,” she delivers sharp, unapologetic commentary with a signature Virgo edge—equal parts humor, attitude, and self-awareness.
Blending storytelling, vocal precision, and a fearless point of view, Joelisa Chanel isn’t just making music—she’s building a world. One where confidence, heartbreak, humor, and truth all coexist—and where every listener can find a piece of themselves in the story.
